NEWARK REGION

We’re on a mission to support families from pre-cradle-to-career through holistic support, excellent schools, and clear pathways to college and career.

Excellent K-12 Schools

BRICK's approach to K-12 education supports both children and their caregivers through a comprehensive pre-cradle to career trajectory, ensuring students are academically and personally prepared for future success.

Individualized learning

We meet children where they are by customizing the curriculum to tap into their individual interests. We also ensure they have the necessary support beyond the classroom to reach their full potential.

Culturally responsive

We leverage knowledge, cultural heritage, and personal identity to create a learning environment that resonates with and empowers our students.

Comprehensive

Our curriculum focuses on the whole child, incorporating STEM proficiency, humanities, athletics, and creative expression, leading our students to far outperform statewide averages.

Strength based & community driven

We build on the existing strengths of our community and invest in relationships. We ensure the individual and the community are the center of decision-making.

Health & wellness

Our programs  cover the full range of family and community needs including education, health & wellness, housing, transportation, human connection, food access, and career & employment support.

Personalized coaching & collective support

BRICK networks include support from a combination of near-peer and professional social workers, helping individuals pave their own path and develop a sense of power in the face of adversity.

Multi-generational

BRICK networks support the multi- generational needs of the whole family.

Holistic support

BRICK builds on the strengths of Black and Brown communities to coordinate and provide comprehensive programming for education, health, housing and more. We offer supportive services because we know personal and community success are interconnected. For example, a child’s success in school is linked to the support they get outside of school.

College & career advancement

BRICK college and career programs help individuals achieve their academic and professional goals through structured exploration, education, and training with 1-1 support every step of the way.

“I cannot stress enough how pleased I am with all of my daughter's teachers and BRICK Gateway Academy as a whole. Had she gone to another school, I feel she would not have received so much support."

BRICK Newark: South Ward Promise Neighborhood

The South Ward Promise Neighborhood (SWPN), an initiative of BRICK, is a collaborative effort funded in large part by a U.S. Department of Education Promise Neighborhood grant. Originally launched in 2014 as the South Ward Children's Alliance, and renamed South Ward Promise Neighborhood (SWPN) in 2018, SWPN unites over 30 partner organizations to provide free programs and services that support South Ward families and children from pre-cradle through college and career. This place-based initiative aims to break cycles of intergenerational poverty through high-quality education, healthcare, and housing, ensuring all children in the South Ward can thrive.
